The world of Night City is one I've built up over a period of years. It's been built on dreams that I've had since I was in my mid-teens, dreams of crumbling buildings, ghosts, vampires that can walk in the sun, and modern mages that are as adapt at programming a computer as at manipulating reality. When I realized that I was having many dreams like this, I started consciously forming the place in my mind and 'talking' with the people I saw in the dreams, developing them into characters with complete histories.

The strongest influences on this world have been the post-apocalyptic/cyberpunk/dystopian science fiction movies of the 80's, William Gibson, Stephen King, japanese role-playing games on the NES, SNES, and Gameboy, Teenager Mutant Ninja Turtles, endless amounts of fiction and nonfiction of all kinds, and my fascination with the supernatual, technology, myths, and urban decay.

Fan art and fan fiction based in the Night City world is not only allowed, but encouraged. This world is too vast for my head to contain it all, too big for me to ever hope to explore it as fully as it deserves. I hope for Night City to become a shared project, with many people creating stories and artwork to flesh it out.

Imagine a city where organic-looking skyscapers rise nestle together with old tenaments, baroque buildings, and burned-out shells. On one street high technology reigns in the form of an elecronic billboard advertising the latest in virtual reality neural interfaces, and it's hanging on the remains of a building crumbling from simple neglect. In one corner of the city live commercial barons who reside in centuries-old mansions, some of which they built themselves... in the opposite corner the buildings stand abandoned, the streets quiet except for the howls and whispers of ghosts.

This is a city built of dreams and nightmares. The world is like ours but not, both more advanced and falling into entropy. It fades at the edges, and reality is never sure. This is a city that is the most modern in its world, but it is also a city where magic runs just under the surface, where vampires walk unnoticed among the humans, and where ghouls haunt the dreams of the living. This is a city that touches our reality but is not of it.

This is Night City.
